The silence of the night, thoughts, memories, and Sezen Aksu…

You say you are amazed at how much fits into one lifetime, but at the same time you get lost in dreams that do not fit into one lifetime. You arrive at the point where you say: Everything already exists in this world but at the same time there is nothing.

You are immersed in something so sweet, so depressive, so selfish that your soul does not get itself together to concern itself just with one subject. Each song carries you off to a different pole. You suddenly become like an autumn leaf.

Especially at my age. A quarter to “the last stop”… whilst you are softly submerged in dilemmas… Look at the state when the effect of a medication wears off. Everything physical and mental that exists makes you feel that your strength is slowly ebbing away, up to the point where you enter the so called journey of no return…

Everybody has things that give meaning to their lives. How happy are those who do not give up those things… Scientists who at the age of one hundred enter into twenty-year long projects, those who create poems out of words, those who have much to tell; literary people; mothers and fathers who witness the happiness of their children and enjoy the love for their grandchildren… Businessmen whose goal is money and who find happiness in this; lovers who remain true to their love; apprentices who are loyal to their master; people who have dedicated their lives to doing good… Those who are not stranded on their path… How happy they are…

But there are also those who sway from one side to the other. They gamble with life and are destined to lose, even to disappear. Consider those who are addicted only to things that give them pleasure… Life can suddenly fill up but how easily it becomes empty again. What meaning is then left if gambling, women etc disappear from that life. It is even worse in the case of heroin, cocaine… All over sudden the next step becomes suicide…

May God allow you to live with a sweet smile and leave without any unfinished business… How wonderful it is to be one of those people who can feel the pain of others and who do not benefit from their predicament.

I say, everyone should wish to be one of those people who reach the highest values… I am sure that everybody’s soul deserves this.

So be it, Sezen Aksu… Your songs trigger tremors in the fault lines of our souls; I’d like you to know that…

And that’s all for tonight, I wish you and myself a sound sleep and colourful dreams…
