The thing called history!

Where are those history tutors whose names I engraved on my mind although I always faltered when it came to history…

As I was writing this, I remembered the Ankara Girls’ Highschool. Those books with black covers, tutors whose names I don’t remember, and my almost failing the year because of the history lesson. As my father saw that I did not understand the series of plots, wars, peace treaties, in short all those events, he started doubting my intelligence. The pharaohs, kings, sultans, commanders, etc. etc… The BC and AD’s, icons, columns, symbols, sculptures, Nefertiti, I don’t know what else, all those dates, people, places and tribes, generations and things that were flying around in my head…

Finally one day I thought of trying to understand. In front of me was the story of a war. I don’t remember what kind of “understanding” it was but I said to my father “I understand!” and added “now it is time to memorize”. My late father rejoiced; full of hope he said “well done”…

Have a look at Marx who says “it is only class struggle”, then go and listen to those who say “our history was determined by tribes”…

Nowadays I understand that in history there are three important issues; to exploit or be exploited, to progress in science-technology, to be wiped of the stage of history in a short time or to learn from past experiences and continue for a long time…

I believe that those who learn from the past do not get exploited, are not wiped out easily and do not regress. Those who do not learn however cannot continue on this path. When I look at Anatolia, so many strong states, tribes, generations passed through it… So what happened that they were wiped out in a short time? This is where the secret lies: staying away from the big and only truth, saying “I’ll be alright”, getting overindulgent and moving away from the path of mind and science… Insisting on the path of intelligence, greed, dogma and heedlessness!

There is great benefit in going and seeing… In this way understanding who has learned from the lessons of the past and survived and who resisted and disappeared quickly …

Some of the tribes that call out to us from the depth of history make one say “Wow, what a nation!“ For a moment they pull the wool over our eyes with all they achieved. But I ask you, where are they now?

Then the big question comes to mind: “What from the past should one take heed of?” One should know that this universe has a master, one should content oneself with what is enough, one should not be oppressed but also not oppress, science and the mind should be encouraged, and in this way one will not be wiped of the stage called history.

In conclusion, it is useful to cleanse oneself of childhood diseases, and not believe that “everything is mine, I am everything!” To learn lessons from history, not to repeat mistakes, not to turn to blind and untrue beliefs, in short not to misdirect our worship!
